The twin-rig trawlers "Iris" and "Janne-Kristin" can achieve optimal manoeuvrability and propulsion efficiency thanks to the incorporation of a controllable pitch propeller from SCHOTTEL
“Janne-Kristin” and “Iris”, two 35 m long and 10 m wide fishing vessels, were recently handed over to the German fishing company Kutterfisch. The twin-rig trawlers can achieve optimal manoeuvrability and propulsion efficiency thanks to the incorporation of a controllable pitch propeller from SCHOTTEL. Both vessels were constructed and designed at Nodosa shipyard in Spain for operation in the North Sea. The projects have been realized in close cooperation with REINTJES España.
Meeting the demands of the fishing industry
“Janne-Kristin” and “Iris” are powered by a ABC 6DZC engine with an input power of 1,326 kW which drives a SCHOTTEL Controllable Pitch Propeller type SCP 71 4-X with a propeller diameter of 3.3 m for a speed of 11 knots. The SCP ideally meets the demands of the fishing industry thanks to the adjustability of the pitch of the propeller blades. This makes them optimally suited for a wide range of operating conditions such as manoeuvring, berthing, casting or hauling nets. As a result, the operator benefits from a high degree of efficiency – leading to lower operating costs and reduced fuel consumption.
Modern fishery vessels for a German owner
“Janne-Kristin” and “Iris” are among the most modern trawlers worldwide. They are equipped with a highly automated system for the loading and unloading of fish containers as well as a reversed bow designed to facilitate navigation and to improve the functionality – especially in rough seas. Beyond this, the catch handling deck has been given a high level of automation to minimize heavy lifting and maximize fish quality. The trawlers are capable of demersal and semi-pelagic trawling for a variety of species.
